Holiday season is almost here

In Uncategorized on November 24, 2013 at 8:14 pm

Can’t wait to see the photos. Happy Holidays…

Hector's Tech World

Walking around downtown Bellevue today is a fast reminder that the holiday season is upon us. My wife and I just booked our tickets to Chile. Spent some time at B&N looking through travel books. Settled on Insight Guides Chile & Easter Island and Moon Handbooks Chile Including Easter Island. Anna’s uncle has a place in Santiago so we will use that as a base of operations. Valparaiso and Patagonia are definitely on the list.

This will be the last outing for my Canon 20D. Its generations old but so far a great companion. I might consider upgrading the lens from the EF 24-105mm f/4.

This trip also puts me in an interesting position with the 30 Days of Tech blog series. I am still working on topics but the 30 days will spill into my trip. This is a great excuse to get the Surface 2 🙂

Tesla’s store guru exits the building

In Uncategorized on November 22, 2013 at 12:04 am

This is interesting.

Gigaom

One of Tesla’s top sales executives and the creator of its store experience — George Blankenship — left the company earlier this month, according to Blankenship’s LinkedIn page, and first reported by the San Jose Mercury News Thursday. Blankenship is a former Apple VP who helped craft Apple’s stores, and now lists his job on LinkedIn as “Director of Smiles” and “Blankenship Family Planner.”

On his LinkedIn page Blankenship also lists his previous roles at Tesla as well as: “November 2013 — Done at Tesla.” Tesla didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. Blankenship told the San Jose Mercury News that he’s retiring to spend more time with his family.

I did an onstage interview with Blankenship at our Roadmap 2012 conference about the process he went through to design the Tesla store experience:

I also did a video interview him when the first experiential Tesla store opened on…

Sonny Bonoho – A Name You Should Know

In Dexter on November 20, 2013 at 5:00 pm

I’ve been a fan and a friend to Sonny Bonoho for many years. It began one night in a gritty club in downtown Seattle.

Daddy O (StetsaSonic, MCA – Mary J. Blige, etc.) and I walked in after Neema from Unexpected Arrival asked that we come through. A kid with jean shorts, Elton John’s glasses and cowboy boots had just walked onto the stage. About two songs in Daddy O and I looked at each other and just about said it at the same time  – This Is The Kid.

Finally, after 12 years of his very hard work, Sonny Bonoho is breaking through. His recent association with Russell Simmons/Steve Rifkind/ADD hasn’t hurt one bit.

Enjoy.

30 Days of Tech

In Business on November 16, 2013 at 7:51 pm

My good friend Hector Linares (Microsoft) just started his cool new Blog.

Hector's Tech World

Hello everyone! Hector Linares from Microsoft reaching out to all from my new WordPress blog and my first post. Expect my initial posts to be focused on System Center Virtual Machine Manager but I will expand overtime. Inspired by 30 Challenges for 30 Days, I am committing to 30 blog posts about VMM for the next 30 days. Hopefully others on the System Center team will pick up on this and do this same 🙂 For all those that do not know me. I am originally from NYC. Born and raised in Brooklyn. I studied mathematics at Boston University and started working on Wall Street right after. After a 5 year stint in Wall Street IT, I moved to Seattle and joined Microsoft. I still work on the Virtual Machine Manager team. I also had the privilege of publishing my first book –  Mastering Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2. Thanks…
